Serendipity Chapter 1
Chapter 1
Serendipity grew up in a small town in the south of Scotland. When she wasn't picking flowers, or chasing sheep, she was seeking out new adventures with her school friends. She loved to create picnics in the back yard of her father's estate. There was a small clearing surrounded by trees that had always been her favorite. When she was very young, she had placed three stools in the center of the clearing on a small rug. Then she placed dolls, and animals around it to create her own fancy tea parties.

These days she had layered a couple more rugs to make the area more cozy for lounging. She had even brought a few pillows to lean on while she wrote in her journal. Today she wrote:
The hills are covered with tall grass this time of year. All the sheep look like they have absolutely no legs at all. They are just puffy clouds floating up and down the hill. This is extremely entertaining to me.
- Seri
She rarely wrote in her journal. As she grew older she found she used it more often. Seri's father owned a large sheep ranch, and it was their main source of income. Her mother loved to weave, and so they always had lots of yarn, and rugs around. Her mother had also taught children at the local school before having children. Serendipity had 5 brothers and sisters, which didn't actually seem like that many compared to other families in the area. Seri was one of the youngest. Only her brother Hamish was younger than she.
Today Seri would do her other favorite activity, which was walking quickly along the brick walls, and stone fences that lined their property. As she grew older, and her legs started to get longer, Seri found this task a little more challenging.
The first day that she had worn a corset, she found this activity even more difficult. She thought perhaps her corset was too tight. However, she also now had to wear an under slip, even if she wore an "around the house" dress. It was all so inconvenient, and cumbersome.
Also as she grew, she found herself a little deeper in the books she owned. She only owned a few, but she found deeper meanings in them the more she read them. "Is this how books always work?", she asked her mother.
"Books don't grow. You do," her mother replied. "As you grow more wise, the words will simply mean more to you. You'll also learn how to listen better to the wisdom within. That why books are the key to knowledge."
